It’s time for a Mars retrograde check-in, friends.

The astrological tale of this Mars retrograde spans from Sept. 4, 2024 to June 17, 2025, and traverses two signs—Cancer and Leo. That’s 8 months of major Mars-esque energy in two areas of your life, expressed through the vastly different energies of Cancer and Leo. We are now about half way through this transit and today is a particularly eventful day: Mars retrograde leaves Leo today to re-enter Cancer.

What does all this mean?

MARS IN LEO
-Nov. 3, 2024: Mars entered Leo
-Dec. 6, 2024: Mars stationed retrograde in Leo
-January 6, 2025: Mars retrograde re-enters Cancer
-April 18, 2025: Mars direct enters Leo
-June 17, 2025: Mars exits Leo and enters Virgo. Mars won’t return to Leo until Sept. 2026.

***Retrograde in Cancer: From now until February 23, you’ll likely feel a slowing down, a turning inward. Forward action will be challenging in these areas of life, but that is the cycle of life. We cannot always be producing, creating, and forcing. We have to rest, review, reevaluate. Opportunities and people may be brought to you to foster this reflection.

A mountainside might appear sturdy and static with snow packed smoothly over its surface like a warm winter jacket—snug and secure. The world seems calm. Immutable.

But then you hear a rumble, and the snow begins to shift. Like shrugging off a blanket, the mountain sheds a layer of snow. Perhaps it crumples down the mountain, a slow collapse. Or perhaps it rushes towards the flatlands below, gaining speed and destroying everything in its path. Either way, a new world has been formed where once, only moments before, it appeared fixed.

On Friday Nov. 15 at 1:29 pm PST, there will be a Full Moon in Taurus conjunct Uranus, and it has the energy of an avalanche.

Taurus, the fixed earth sign, is reticent to change.

Uranus is the planet of radical, startling change.

Uranus usually results in quick changes, but the inertia of Taurus slows Uranus’s effect. Since Uranus entered Taurus in 2018, change in your life may have felt as slow as a river eroding the land into a canyon, taking millennia. Perhaps the change has felt more like something slowly being built, sedimentary layers being deposited upon each other.

But today’s astrology tells a different story: one of startling change. Maybe it won’t all come together today, maybe it’ll take the next 7 months, but whatever change has been brewing is building to something radically different and likely to come together swiftly. Perhaps Uranus has been eroding rock drip by drip—infinitesimal and unnoticed—these last 6 years and now enough has worn away that the whole cliff face will collapse.

Whether Uranus in Taurus has been about destruction or construction for you (or both!), this Full Moon is a culmination of that transformation. This is the last Full Moon in Taurus that will be co-present with Uranus, since the planet will move into Gemini in July 2025. The Uranus in Taurus story of change will continue from now to July, but today marks the start of an avalanche of change rushing toward summer 2025, whereas the last 6 years have been gradual shifts.

Keep your wits about you, friends. The ground is rumbling and your world will be changing.

Today’s astrology speaks of destruction and growth, of violence and beauty, of losing and winning, struggle and hope.

Of late, the #Towercard in #tarot has been on my mind, and again today’s astrology evokes the imagery and meaning of that card. In the Tower card, what had once been a structure that we built to keep us safe and warm has become a prison. Its walls oppressive. The doors bricked over.

Sometimes, like Rapunzel, we can find our own way out of the Tower through a bit of ingenuity and a kernel of hope. But often we are stalled by fear of the unknown. Sure, we are uncomfortable and unhappy, but this is a familiar pain. It is OUR pain. Perhaps we would ride that complacency to the grave, quietly and without a fuss.

But that is not the path.

Today’s #astrology speaks of a moment where fate pushes in, where lightning strikes the Tower and it tumbles apart and you are thrust into a new world with no armor, just you and the unknown.

But after the pain comes the soothing balm of Venus and the hope and luck of Jupiter. You need only have a little faith.

While this description speaks of major change, that doesn’t mean the change will itself be loud or that the cataclysm occurs today. When you read these words, you should already have some inkling that a major change is in the works. That some former way of being is about to crumble. That some new path is opening up.

What complacent safety are you being forced to abdicate?
What has been destroyed, against your will and much to your sad despair?

The shining future of abundance and harmony that Venus and Jupiter foretell is not clear. It cannot be known. But let the astrology give you hope that the destruction is necessary for the bright future that awaits you. Just put one foot after the other, even though you don’t know the destination. As Rumi wrote, “When you start to walk on the path, the path appears.”

Starting Oct. 11, Pluto is stationing direct in Capricorn. This is the last time that Pluto will station direct here. On Nov. 19, Pluto will enter Aquarius and stay there for the next 20 years, not returning to Capricorn for another 248 years. From Oct. 11-17, Pluto will appear stationary in the sky before it again appears to move forward. In this moment of stasis, Pluto pulls focus and demands that we review and integrate the lessons we’ve be learning since it entered Cap in 2008.

Pluto dredges up what has been buried. It exhumes the decaying corpses of our lives and of society and forces us to reckon with them. In particular, Pluto forces us to witness abuses of power, exploitation, vice, and addiction.

Collectively, since 2008, we’ve been facing how power and oppression are baked into societal structures. We’ve had a reckoning with how today’s countries, financial systems, and social norms have been built by oppressing some in favor of others. Pluto’s exit of Cap doesn’t mark a resolution or reparation for those past wrongs or how they persist in the present—that work is ongoing—but the truth now seen cannot be unseen.

On a personal level, Pluto has been dredging up hidden harmful beliefs, actions, thought patterns, or addictions, especially in the areas of our lives that reside in Capricorn (see the last slide). Perhaps Pluto has unveiled things you intentionally hid away. Perhaps Pluto has been bringing to light traumatic memories or problematic thought patterns hidden in your subconscious.

Grappling with what Pluto uncovers requires more care and work than one social media post can cover, but an idea I’d like to share with you is how, on an individual level, Pluto calls us to surrender and sit in the discomfort of what’s been revealed. There’s a tendency to see a problem and move straight to “how do I fix it?” Part of the path to wisdom is through stasis. I’ve been thinking about the Hanged One tarot card a lot lately and in this moment, as Pluto hangs stationary in the sky, can we also be still? Can we pause trying to find a solution? Can we sit in the pain? What epiphanies will be revealed when we acknowledge the totality of the truth?

Let’s discuss cardinal placements, friends.

I was reading the brilliant and thoroughly enjoyable book ASTRO POETS: YOUR GUIDE TO THE ZODIAC by @wildeamericanboy and @dorothealasky (from @flatiron_books) and felt smacked in the face when I read this passage:

“Cardinal signs want to be first, in charge and running the show… They want to conquer. They crave followers and can get very frustrated is others don’t fall in line.”

Now, I’m of course aware of how cardinal signs want to instigate and lead. But something about these lines rang so true and so potent—especially here in Libra Season—that I have to share with you.

Perhaps you equate this passage with Aries and Capricorn—signs that we often associate with leadership, instigating action, and exerting power over others. But what about Libra? What about Cancer?

Libra is the Cardinal Air sign, though it is often described as being wishy washy, passive, and people pleasing. Let’s push on that a bit. Libra has the particular skill of reading the room and individual people and then presenting the face that is most palatable and serviceable to the Libra’s end. The Libra will get their way—you’ll just think it was your idea. If Libra seems to be giving up ground, it’s tactical.

Likewise, if memes were to be believed, we’d assume that Cancer Sun/Moon/Rising folks are emotionally volatile crybabies. In practice, though, you’ll find Cancers at the head of the family, of the company, of their friends, with people looking to them for safety and security. Cancers command big parent energy. It is a superpower. Their ability to connect with people emotionally develops intimacy and trust and inspires people to look to them for support.

Within your astrological code is the ability and drive to lead. You may have been shamed for being too pushy or overbearing, but it is part of your astrological code.
